An exciting match... - 12 Jul 2012 - Women's Football NewsThis weekend we take a little trip into the unknown when we play Cameroon in a friendly match in Aberdeen.
The game on Sunday should be an exciting match. I went to watch Cameroon play Northern Ireland last weekend and they look to be a very physical and athletic team.
This game has landed right in the middle of our domestic mid-season break but all of the girls are itching to get back playing and having an International match with a team that is going to compete in the Olympics in just a few weeks time is a great match to have lined up.
I don't know too much about Cameroon - only what I saw when they played Northern Ireland - but I am sure the coaching staff have done their homework and will prepare us in the best possible way for going into this game. We don't play African teams very often but we did play South Africa at the beginning of this year in the Cyprus Cup and won that match 2-0.
I am excited to finally have an international match played in Aberdeen as I don't think the women's national team has ever played in my home town. It's a great opportunity for all my friends and family who haven't seen me represent Scotland to come along and watch. A lot of my friends haven't been to watch any women's matches so they are all excited for the game as well.
Eilish McSorley and Lana Clelland have received their first call ups but it was only a matter of time for both of them. They have been doing well for a number of years now for both their club teams and the national youth squads. This is a great opportunity for them to show off their talents and I am sure they are looking forward to this coming weekend.
Playing teams like Cameroon will definitely benefit us as a team. We get used to playing European teams like France etc who are very much a technical team so to play against a different style of play will allow us the opportunity to gain experience on how to adapt to deal with the different threats that they will cause.
