Coventry's successful charity fund raiser
 Women's Football News 23 Jul 2012

A Coventry City Ladies XI participated in a charity fun day for the Ronald McDonald House Charities at Woodlands academy last Sunday, helping raise over £7,000.

The girls played a seven-a-side match against 'Rosie's Randoms' - a team of girls all looking to raise money for the charity, most of whom had never played football before.

In a fun filled match that ended with seven Sky Blues taking on 18 from their opponents, each player received a medal for taking part, and made some new friends along the way.

A bumper crowd and great weather added to the atmosphere, as many volunteers worked hard to raise money for charity. In attendance was 17-year-old Miss Coventry pageant winner Natalia Leigh, who was delighted with the contributions made for such a good cause. "It's so good to see all these people come out and support a great charity," she said.

"It shows what can be achieved when people come together and work hard. I'm really pleased to be taking part."

Natalia was also very impressed with the 'Rosie's Randoms' friendly and the attraction it made towards the vast amount of spectators: "It's great to see so many people interested in the game, it really shows how far the women's game has come recently."

Special thanks should go to Louise Abbot and Ajit Ranu without whom, along with charity worker Joan O'Sullivan's hard work, the event would not have been possible.

Joan O'Sullivan of RMHC said: "Thanks to everybody's support we can now help 280 families stay at the RMHC at Birmingham Children's hospital.

"Rosie's randoms enjoyed playing against such a skilled and professional team who played in the true spirit of the match."

Elsewhere Coventry beat Sheffield FC 3-1 at Sphinx Drive in a friendly match. Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, Danni Saulter and Gina Goulding all found the net to get the first team's pre-season campaign off to a winning start.

There are currently sponsorship opportunities at Coventry City Ladies and if you are interested, please contact club Secretary Andy Stickley on (07740) 869757 or e-mail andrew.stickley@live.co.uk.
