Queen's Park Rangers are travelling to the isle of Wight this coming weekend as part of their pre-season preperations ahead of the forthcoming season.
This trip follows on from their visit to the island of Jersey for a similar training camp last season.
Whilst on the island, as well as training, they will play a fixture against the island's top women's team Shanklin Ladies on Sunday 5th August.
R's manager Martino Chevannes said: "Trips like this are an important part of the build up to the forthcoming season as it allows us to spend an extended time period with the players whereby you can work with the group intensively, along with the added benefit of getting in some valuable team bonding and building which really helps with the integration of any new players coming into the squad.
"Shanklin Ladies currently play in the Southern Region Premier League where they finished in second place last season behind Oxford United. Aside of their normal league opponents from the mainland who have to travel across on a Sunday, they very rarely get the opportunity to play against higher league teams from the mainland as historically clubs tend to not travel there - which is the same situation that we found when we travelled to Jersey to train last season, a result of which they have since had enquires from other clubs on the mainland regarding going over to train and play fixtures against the Jersey Women's side.
"Hopefully us going to the Isle of Wight will have the same effect and encourage more teams to go there and in turn help play their part in raising the profile of women's and girls football on the island foremost as well as the wider domain."
