Cardiff Met Ladies' hopes of making it through to the knockout stages of the UEFA Women's Champions League have come to an end after they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by WFC SFK 2000 Sarajevo in their second group match.
The Welsh Champions, determined not to repeat their opening five-goal defeat to ASA Tel-Aviv, defended stoutly during the game and kept the scoreline goalless at the interval. However in the 57th minute, they fell behind when Amela Krso scored what proved to be the only goal of the game.
Stephanie Turner, Nadia Lawrence and Emily Allen all had attempts on goal late on as Cardiff Met tried to salvage a point but they could not find a way through. Sarajevo therefore lead the table by three points and need to avoid defeat in their final game against Tel-Aviv in order to book their place in the next phase.
Cardiff Met complete their group matches on Thursday when they play Republic of Ireland title winners Peamount Utd, again in Sarajevo.
