Gillingham got off to a flying start on the opening day of the Southern Division campaign as they ran out 7-1 winners away to Queen's Park Rangers.
Natalie Crinean and Charlotte Gurr put the Gills two ahead in the first half before Jay Blackie added a brace and Gurr completed her double, with Emma Tune and Nicole Pepper also on target.
Reading FC Women's aims of quickly recapturing their National Division status got off to a great start, defeating last season's runners-up Colchester Utd 5-1. Francesca Kirby bagged a hat-trick inside the opening half hour and second half goals from Lois Roche and Alice Palmer rounded off the victory.
Brighton & Hove Albion also started well, beating Tottenham Hotspur 4-0. Faye Rabson put the Seagulls in front and Kim Stenning weighed in with a brace, with a Robyn Downie own goal completing the scoring.
The two newly promoted sides came face to face at Wells and it was Yeovil Town who emerged as 3-1 winners over Lewes. Grace Rapp gave Yeovil the lead and Laura Bray contributed a brace, before Andreia Veiga grabbed a second half consolation for the Sussex side (see match report).
Millwall Lionesses and West Ham Utd met in a derby clash and it was Millwall who took the points with a 1-0 victory. Emma Whitter settled matters with the only goal of the game on the hour mark.
