Scotland girls hit seven
 Women's Football News 21 Aug 2012

Scotland Under-19s beat Republic of Ireland 7-1 at the Braidwood Motor Company Stadium in Livingston.

Preparations for the upcoming UEFA Women's Under-19 European Championship first qualifying round could not have gone better as Carolina Richardson and Abbi Grant doubles and strikes from Zoe Ness, Chloe Arthur and Kirsty Smith put a well-respected Irish side to the sword.

Tight opening exchanges may have had doubters believing this would be a close encounter. But four minutes in a well weighted through-ball from Smith set up front woman Richardson to slot expertly home from ten yards.

Confidence poured through this talented batch of Scotland players. Richardson's strength was causing considerable problems for the Irish defence and it was this uncertainty at the back which allowed Ness to find enough time twenty yards out to fire an unstoppable strike past Jill Maloney and into the top corner to send the hosts 2-0 up.

The first Irish shot took eleven minutes to come but was comfortably saved by Hannah Reid.

The vision of Caroline Weir - with her probing passes for Richardson - was opening up the right-hand side of the visitors. Richardson's running was rewarded on 28 minutes when she was put through by Zoe Ness before coolly finishing for her second. Then it was turn of Chloe Arthur who chipped the keeper from 30 yards to send the hosts 4-0 ahead at half time.

The second half couldn't have started better as Grant penetrated the right wing to deliver an inch perfect cross for Smith who mercilessly placed home from six yards. Grant was next on the scoresheet as her deflected header from five yards beat a helpless Maloney.

Magical control by Ashley Fish on the left brought the ball out of the sky before she crossed for Grant to score her second with a sublime placed shot into the bottom right.

Credit should be given to the Irish for their perseverance and determination. This paid dividends when Emma Hansbury lobbed Reid from 30 yards for a spectacular consolation.

Scotland: Reid, Knox, Arthur (sub Briggs 78mins), Clark (sub Douglas 62mins), Hunter, Hill (sub Nicol 57mins), Smith (sub Fish 65mins), Weir (sub McMahon 76mins), Richardson, Grant, Ness (sub McGuire 45mins).
