Newcastle Utd head the Northern Division table after they ran out 5-1 winners over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Stacy Crooks netted the only goal of the first half and Jess Havelock doubled Newcastle's lead six minutes after the break. Dani Selmes reduced the arrears for Wolves but Crooks scored her fifth goal in two games to make it 3-1 and Newcastle went on to add further goals through Charlotte Potts and Megan Pyper.
Blackburn Rovers kept up their own good start by beating Leicester City 2-0. Leicester had the better of the early exchanges and new signing Abbie Hinton hit a fierce 30-yard drive which Rovers keeper Krystal Parker tipped over the bar, Blackburn took the lead in the 28th minute when Katie McLoughlin was adjudged to handled the ball in the box and Kayleigh Savage cooly slotted home the spot kick. The second period ebbed and flowed with a lot of good football being played by both teams but it was Rovers who got that important second goal when Lagan Makin followed up to tap home after a fine save by City keeper Nicola Van De Weerdhof in the 80th minute to give Rovers the points.
Sporting Club Albion picked up their first win of the season when edging out Derby County by the odd goal in five. Kayleigh Griffiths, Jamie Fowler and Natasha Baptiste were all on target for Albion with Derby replying through Annabel McKechnie and Cara Newton.
