Blackburn fightback takes them top
 Women's Football News 11 Sep 2012

Blackburn Rovers ascended to the top of the Northern Division after they came from two goals behind to share a 4-4 draw in their local derby with Preston North End.

Rovers twice took the lead during the first half, both goals scored by Katie Anderton, with Gemma Watson equalising on each occasion for the home side. Jenna Carroll then ensured that Preston led going into the break and Sarah Walker added a fourth, three minutes into the second half. Nichol Forster gave Blackburn renewed hope as she pulled a goal back and with five minutes remaining, Anderton completed her second hat-trick in successive weeks to earn her side a valuable point.

Newcastle Utd had started the day on top of the table but they crashed to a 6-0 defeat away to Sporting Club Albion, who are up into second place. Tash Baptiste gave Albion a fifth minute lead before adding a second on the half hour mark and Kayleigh Griffiths increased their lead ahead of the interval. Baptiste finished off her hat-trick early in the second half with Kelly Darby and Ashleigh Neville rounding off a resounding victory.

Sheffield FC now sport the division's only remaining 100% record after they won 3-2 at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Dani Selmes latched on to a Becky Hall through ball to give Wolves a fifth minute lead but Kayleigh Mitchell quickly headed Sheffield level and Jodie Michalska put them in front. Selmes scored her second goal to equalise midway through the second half but a minute later, Sheffield settled matters when Catherine Lawson netted the winning goal from the penalty spot.

Derby County put two opening defeats behind them to claim their first victory of the season, 4-0 against Leicester City. Cara Newton scored twice, with Lorna Abbey and Nicole Ledgister adding the other goals (see match report).
