Northern Ireland are celebrating after qualifying for the Second Qualifying Round of the UEFA Under-17 Championships with a 4-1 victory over Israel in their final group match.
However England - who host the Finals in two years time - crashed to a 4-1 defeat to Italy and have gone out of the competition at the first phase.
The two British sides had opened up their group with a goalless draw against each other and in the second round matches, England defeated Israel 5-0 whilst group hosts Northern Ireland recorded a superb 1-0 win over Italy, putting them on the verge of qualifying whilst Italy and England battled it out for the other place.
Northern Ireland got off to the perfect start at Coleraine as Chloe McCarron netted twice inside the opening 25 minutes and Amy Burden added a third ahead of half time. Saja Ibrahim did pull a goal back for Israel but Aimee Mackin fired home the fourth and Alison Nicholl's jubilant team can now look forward to the second phase.
Meanwhile in the other group game at Ballymena, England got off to the worst possible start when they found themselves two goals behind within twenty minutes, both goals scored by Francesca Pittaccio, and the striker went on to complete her hat-trick on the stroke of half time.
Manuela Giugliano further extended Italy's lead thirteen minutes from time, before Natasha Flint scored a late consolation at the end of a disappointing campaign for England.
