Lincoln hold off fightback
 Women's Football News 8 Oct 2012
Chelsea (Lander 60, Susi 90) Lincoln Ladies 3 (Hamilton 44, Allen 50, Staniforth 54)
Lincoln Ladies finished off the season on a winning note and take fifth place in the FA WSL table but had to withstand a second half fightback from Chelsea after being reduced to ten players.
The opening stages of the game were largely quite as both teams looked to settle down before Jess Clarke made a threatening run for Lincoln, cutting infield but Kylie Davies did well to get across and block her shot.
At the other end, Chelsea's first real opportunity came as Adriana Martin cut the ball back for Helen Lander but the striker was crowded out by the Lincoln defence. Dunia Susi then did well to control a deep cross from Helen Bleazard before firing her side wide from an acute angle.
Lincoln went close to opening the scoring when Precious Hamilton was denied by Carly Telford and Gemma Bonner blocked the rebound from Clarke on the line but two minutes later, Hamilton was to go one better as she broke clear of the Chelsea defence and found the bottom corner to put her side ahead.
Five minutes into the second half, the Lady Imps went further ahead as a goalmouth scramble ended with Remi Allen finding the net from close range.
Before Chelsea could recover, they found themselves three behind. Hamilton this time turned provider as she slotted a through ball into the path of Lucy Staniforth who finished unerringly with a low strike.
The home side needed a way back into the game and it came on the hour mark when Lander drove home her seventh goal of the season to reduce the arrears.
Lincoln were further hampered shortly afterwards when Sophie Walton was sent off but they could have restored their three-goal advantage as Clarke burst through and rounded Telford but Sophie Ingle did well to get back and deny the England winger a goal.
Chelsea continued to press with a low drive by Ingle being turned just wide by Bonner but they gave themselves renewed hope as the game went into injury time, Dunia Susi powering a header past Nicola Hobbs.
Chelsea could not complete their comeback though and Lincoln saw the game out to take the points and finish one place above the home side.
Chelsea: Carly Telford, Lara Fay, Sophie Perry, Kylie Davies (sub Kate Longhurst 61mins), Gemma Bonner, Sophie Ingle, Helen Bleazard, Laura Coombs, Adriana Martin, Helen Lander, Dunia Susi. Subs: Suzanne Lappin, Ashlee Hincks, Claire Rafferty.

Lincoln Ladies: Nicola Hobbs, Sophie Walton, Meaghan Sargeant, Sophie Barker, Sophie Bradley, Casey Stoney, Megan Harris, Lucy Staniforth, Precious Hamilton, Remi Allen, Jess Clarke. Subs: Bonnie Horwood, Martha Harris, Laura Alleway.
