Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End took the opportunity to narrow the gap on Northern Division table toppers Sheffield FC to two points by picking up victories on Sunday.
The league leaders did not have a game but were virtually guaranteed to stay on top of the table. Blackburn are up into second place after winning 3-2 away to Derby County, given to them by goals from Beth Donoghue, Keeleigh Savage and Hannah Forster.
Preston meanwhile stepped up their challenge with a 3-0 victory over Newcastle Utd, who had started the day in second. Laura Walker gave them the lead after ten minutes and added a second shortly before half time, with Sarah Walker wrapping up the points with the final goal on the hour mark.
Sporting Club Albion follow on in fourth place following a 4-0 local derby victory away to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The home side were never able to recover after Robyn James and Jamie Fowler scored in a three minute spell during the first half. Ashleigh Neville increased Albion's lead midway through the second half and Abby Pope netted the fourth against her old club, ten minutes from time.
Nottingham Forest are just off the pace but have a number of games in hand on the leading sides and kept in touch with a 3-0 win at Leicester City. Aileen Whelan bagged a brace to put Forest two ahead inside the opening 22 minutes and Andi Bell completed the victory during injury time.
