Sunday saw the FA Girls' Football Festival supported by Continental Tyres, Sport England and UEFA come to the Us Girls Rocks Festival at Leigh Sports Village.
The day was aimed at young women aged 14 to 25 and featured a range of free sporting activities.
Young women from across the North West were invited to take part in the FA Girls' Football Festival, incorporating football, lifestyle and music. Around 100 girls, most of them playing for the first time, took part in the free programme led by FA coaches and aimed at encouraging girls to get involved in the game. They were accompanied by Jess Clarke, Team GB, England and Lincoln Ladies football star.
Activities included interactive games and competitions, the ContiWarmUp programme, skills and drills, prizes and goodies, hair braider, and digital stations to entertain the girls during breaks from playing. Participants also had the chance to pose with the FA WSL trophy.
Jess Clarke interacted and had her photo taken with the participants. A Q & A was held to give the girls an insight into the life of a semi professional female footballer. Team GB Olympian and Judo ace Sophie Cox also spoke about her passion for sport.
The initiative has already visited 24 venues throughout England in 2012 providing hundreds of girls with an exciting, interactive football experience.
The next, and last, FA Girls' Football Festival of the season is on Tuesday 30 October at the 'Us Girls' Sports Festival, Eston Sports Academy, Middlesbrough, from 11am-3pm. The Festival will be attended by FA Women's Super League (FA WSL) players.
