With National Division leaders Sunderland not playing, Leeds Utd took the opportunity to narrow the gap on them to a single point with a 3-0 victory over Portsmouth.
Rachel Lee put Leeds in front just before the half hour mark with a stunning left foot strike from 30 yards and they doubled their lead midway through the second half when Jess Holbrook finished off a good move. The game was wrapped up twelve minutes from time as Carla Cantrell set up Carey Huegett to fire home the third goal.
Aston Villa moved up into third place, their highest position of the season to date, following their 1-0 win against Manchester City. A tight game was settled with fifteen minutes remaining when Katie Wilkinson netted the only goal.
Coventry City leapt four places up the table and into the top half, thanks to a 2-0 success away to Barnet. Both of the goals came in a three minute spell during the second half, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk putting the Sky Blues ahead and Helen Dermody scoring the second shortly afterwards.
