Brislington set sights on Shanklin
 Women's Football News 9 Nov 2012

Brislington make the trip to the Isle of Wight to take on Shanklin as strong underdogs in the Third Round Qualifying of the F.A.Women's Cup this Sunday.

The young Bristol-based side are playing only their second season of senior football in the Somerset County League but will go into the game against last season's Southern Region League runners-up sporting a proud record. Since their formation as a girls team eight years ago, they have never been beaten in a league match at junior or senior level and have only lost once, to Keynsham Town Reserves in the County Cup semi finals last season.

Matt Osborne and Jay Whelan, Brislington's joint managers, said to Women's Soccer Scene: "This holds no fear for us as we have got everything to gain and nothing to lose. We relish the opportunity to play against higher opposition.

"We have a very young side and this is very much a learning curve for us as it is our first shot in the F.A.Women's Cup and the girls are very much enjoying the experience. Being the FA Cup, there are always a few upsets and we are hoping to cause one of them to get our name in the hat with some of the big guns!

"The players are excited about the challenge and look forward to playing a team which are currently playing two leagues above us and who were last season's runners-up in the Premier Division of the Southern League.

"We have been privileged this season in welcoming Ann Marie Heatherson, Bristol Academy's WSL striker, on board with coaching. She is a great inspiration to the players and her experience and knowledge is already paying off, with the girls looking sharper and fitter all round."

Brislington midfielder Sophie Whelan added: "Even though this is our first season in the FA Cup, we have already surpassed our expectations and if we can go out and play like I know we can,I am sure we can give Shanklin a good run for their money and the beauty of the FA Cup is, you never know what will happen on the day."
