Liskeard Girls scoop prestigious award
 Women's Football News 20 Nov 2012

Liskeard Girls scoop prestigious award - 20 Nov 2012 - Women's Football NewsOn Friday 9th November, Liskeard Girls FC were invited to attend the Cornwall Sports Awards, run by the Cornwall Sports Partnership at the Headland Hotel in Newquay, as one of the clubs shortlisted for the Cornwall Sports Club of the Year Award.

Liskeard Girls FC were in a category with nine other very strong and well established sports clubs from across Cornwall with many different sports represented. The award was decided by a public vote by the people of Cornwall and it was the people of Cornwall that voted to make Liskeard Girls FC the Sports Club of the Year.

Liskeard Girls FC are a FA Charter Standard Club who have over 40 girls of all abilities from the age of 8 to 18 playing for the club on a weekly basis. The club is well established in the local community and has strong local backing at all levels through their sponsor S.A.S Trewartha's Plumbing and Heating and club president, South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray who had this to say about the this most recent success: "I would like to congratulate Liskeard Girls Football Club on their very well deserved 'Club of the Year' award. I would like to thank all those involved in making this Club a fantastic success in particular coaches Ian Woodhouse and Adam Sibley, sponsor SAS & Trewartha's Plumbing and Heating and of course the girls themselves for their fantastic efforts. This award confirms what I already knew - that they are an exceptional team."

The club has strong links with local schools that they have visited in the area to deliver free football sessions for girls and has recently secured funding to send their older players on their FA Level 1 Coaching Course so they can become young leaders within the club.

The girls are equally successful on the pitch as they are off of it. Having competed in three South West Regional Championships and winning all the way through to the Under-14 girls national finals in 2011, they have grown a strong reputation within the football community.

Coach Ian Woodhouse said: "This is a fantastic achievement for our club and I feel honoured to have won such a prestigious award. None of this would have been possible without our amazing group of girls, who make the club what it is today with their dedication, enthusiasm and hard work. A thank you to all our parents for their brilliant support year after year.

"To our sponsor, S.A.S Trewartha's Plumbing and Heating, who without their support of the club, none of this would be possible and lastly, a massive thank you from everyone at Liskeard Girls FC to everybody who took time out to vote for us, and making winning this award our biggest achievement so far as a club!"
