Brighton & Hove Albion finished top of Group Two in the Premier League Cup after an astonishing result in the final group match.
Charlton Athletic went into their final match with Lewes needing anything better than a two-goal defeat in order to finish above the Seagulls but instead they crashed to a 5-0 reverse. Claire Trafford scored twice for the Rookettes with Jenny Chiumento, Naomi Cole and Charlotte Bennett adding the others.
Portsmouth claimed second place in Group One with a 3-2 victory over Yeovil Town. Pompey needed a win to be sure of going through and they raced into a three-goal lead, courtesy of a Shelly Cox double and former Yeovil winger Jemma Tewkesbury. Laura Bray and Stacey Pearson pulled goals back for the Glovers but Portsmouth held on for the result they needed. Reading FC Women and Queen's Park Rangers battled out a 1-1 draw in the other game, Francesca Kirby netting for Reading with Kirsten Thomson replying.
Aston Villa secured the second qualifying position in Group Three as a first half goal from Emma Follis earned them a 1-0 win against Sporting Club Albion. The other group game saw a much higher scoring affair with Leicester City beating Derby County 4-3. Katie Lowder netted twice for Leicester along with Kim Farrow and Issy Hayes.
Leeds Utd clinched top spot in Group Six as a solitary strike from Jess Holbrook gave them a 1-0 success away to Newcastle Utd. Sunderland were held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest in the other game, Keira Ramshaw twice giving the Wearsiders the lead with Forest equalising on both occasions through Natasha Meade and Amber Hughes.
