 Women's Football News 11 Jan 2013
Northern Combination
Chorley have gone three points ahead at the top of the table following their 3-2 victory against Stockport County. However this did not tell the whole story as the Lancashire side needed to come from two goals behind at the break in order to pick up a crucial win in their title quest. Scarlett Smith netted twice, including a superb individual winning goal, and Danielle Toward added the other.
Cheadle Heath Nomads claimed an important 3-1 victory away to Wakefield to move themselves three points in front of their opponents. Caroline Price, Tracey Sloane and Sammy Kay McVean were all on target for the Cheshire side.
Midland Combination
With their two nearest rivals involved in F.A.Women's Cup action, Stoke City took full advantage to beat Loughborough Students 2-1 and take over the leadership on goal difference, thanks to goals from Dawn Mallett and Meg Bowyer.
Leicester City are still in fourth place but have lost a little ground after being held to a 1-1 draw by Rotherham Utd.
Daventry Town are out of the bottom two after they picked up a 2-1 victory over Leamington Lions, Nicola Evans scoring both goals.
South East Combination
Crystal Palace picked up an important point from a 1-1 draw against fifth placed Enfield Town. Palace took an early lead through a strike from Kirsty Mitchell, with Enfield captain Claire Gooch securing a point for her side with the equaliser on the stroke of half time.
Brentwood Town meanwhile put a six-point gap between themselves and the bottom two with an 8-1 victory over Arlesey Town. Kerry Stimson hit a hat-trick with doubles coming from Nikita Whinnett and Sophie Lovell, Carla Rose adding the other goal.
South West Combination
Southampton Saints have cemented themselves in mid-table after they came away from Newquay with a 2-1 win under their belts, Roxy Lee-Stewart scoring both goals.
Gloucester City did their chances of climbing off the bottom a power of good by running out 7-0 winners over University of Portsmouth, their first league victory of the season. Laura Meheran bagged a hat-trick and Leanne Godwin weighed in with a double, Helen Wood and Ashleigh Watson rounding off the scoring.
