No fewer than ten Colchester United Ladies youngsters have recently been involved in the England international selection process at various stages following in the footsteps of Under-17s team member Zoe Dorringtion and the Under-15s' Miagah Downey.
Both of the Colchester prospects attended England Under-15 training camps last season, with Dorrington earning two caps before moving into the Under-17s, while Downey continues to push for a place in the Under-15 line-up. This opened the door for a number of other U's youngsters to earn their own shots at reaching the international level.
Firstly, Academy player Emily Clements received a call up to an Under-19 training camp in November, then six more of the U's Under-17s Centre of Excellence squad were included in an England 'Talent Identification' camp after impressing scouts at fixtures. Following the talent camp goalkeeper Imogen Riches, defender Henrietta Okonta and striker Lucy Loomes progressed to a full Under-17s camp.
Strikers Evie Clarke and Sasha Adamson are also on standby for the camp while defender Grace Gillard is included in the Under-17s player pool for further consideration and Under-15s Captain Evie Gallop has attended a regional Elite Performance Camp. This is extra recognition for the club, who have been recording local, regional and national successes of late.
