Portugal 2 Wales 0
Wales were beaten 2-0 in their opening group match of the Algarve Cup by hosts Portugal at VRS Antonio.
In an evenly matched first half, Portugal opened the scoring nine minutes before the break with a penalty. Wales competed throughout and after a good first half with some key chances, continued to battle in second. Portugal, however, proved to be the better team.
In the 72nd minute, Portugal doubled their lead with a breakaway goal. To compound matters Hayley Ladd was sent off for a second bookable offence in injury time, meaning she will be unavailable for the next match in the tournament on Friday against Mexico.
Loren Dykes captained the side on the day on the occasion of winning her 50th cap. Meanwhile Amy Watgan has been called in to replace an injured Nadia Lawrence and joins up with the squad tomorrow.
Wales are next in action on Friday when they take on Mexico at the same venue.

Subs: Rhian Nokes, Nicola Cousins, Carys Hawkins, Danielle Oates, Lauren Hancock, Megan Wynne, Michelle Green, Shan Jones, Amy Thrupp, Rachel Hignett.
