Hibs and Forfar make good starts
 Women's Football News 18 Mar 2013

Hibs and Forfar make good starts - 18 Mar 2013 - Women's Football NewsHibernian and Forfar Farmington took the opening day honours in the Scottish Women's Premier League as each began their seasons with 4-0 victories.

Last season's runners-up Forfar Farmington made the trip to Falkirk and after finding home goalkeeper Leigh Skelton in inspired form, they took the lead on 32 minutes through a Caroline Heron header, with Nicola Davidson putting them two ahead moments later and Nicky Grant adding a third on the stroke of half time. Grant duly completed her double by finishing off a good move midway through the second half.

Hibernian also scored four without reply against Aberdeen to get their season off to a good start. Susan Fairlie was on target twice for Willie Kirk's side, with Caroline Weir and Kirsty Smith joining her on the scoresheet.

Champions Glasgow City picked up a hard earned three points when they defeated Rangers 3-2 in their local derby. City took a 17th minute lead when debutant Sarah Crilly volleyed in an Eilish McSorley cross and Joanne Love quickly added a second. Moments after Khym Ramsay denied Suzanne Malone a third with a superb save, Rangers got themselves back in the game through a Hollie Thomson header on the half hour. McSorley restored the two-goal advantage from a corner after the break and although Megan Foley pulled a goal back for Rangers, City saw the game out to notch up their first victory.

Hutchison Vale narrowly got the better of newly promoted Kilwinning SC when a late strike gave them victory by the odd goal in five. Suzanne Robertson and Jamie Torrence put Hutchie two ahead inside the opening fifteen minutes but Kilwinning hit back after the break, Kirsty McNicol and Clare Docherty levelling the scores. However in the dying minutes, Jen Malone settled matters in Hutchie's favour when she scored a decisive third.

Buchan Ladies' debut match in the SWPL against Celtic fell victim to the weather as did the match between Hamilton Academicals and Spartans.
