Chelsea sign Brazilian Ester - 10 Apr 2013 - Women's Football NewsChelsea are delighted to announce the signing of Brazil international midfielder Ester. 
Ester was welcomed to the club's Cobham training ground by David Luiz, Ramires and Oscar (pictured). The defensive midfielder and becomes the first Brazilian female to play in the FA WSL.
Ester was part of the Brazil squad who finished as runners-up in the 2007 World Cup and 2008 Summer Olympics. The talented midfielder also played in the 2011 World Cup as well as the 2012 Summer Olympics. She made her international debut in 2003 and had accumulated 56 caps ahead of the 2012 Olympic in London.
"I'm delighted to be here at Chelsea and looking forward to the season," said Ester. "I feel at home already and am very happy to play for such a big club."
Ester began playing as a child in her neighbourhood near the São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport. She was signed for Clube Atlético Juventus after a trial, then moved on to Santos FC. In 2007 Ester played for CEPE-Caxias in Rio de Janeiro before re-joining Santos in January 2008.
In the 2008 WPS International Draft, Ester was selected by Sky Blue FC alongside compatriot Rosana, but did not join the team. Instead Ester found success in the Copa Libertadores Femenina with Santos in 2009 and 2010.
Ester was part of a Brazilian contingent at Russian champions WFC Rossiyanka in 2012, playing in the UEFA Women's Champions League defeat to Turbine Potsdam.
Chelsea defender David Luiz was pleased to see Ester become the first Brazilian to sign for a FA Women's Super League club.
"Ester is a great signing for Chelsea Ladies and it's fantastic for us to see another great player at Chelsea Football Club. I'd like to welcome her to the Chelsea family," he said.
"Ester will bring a wealth of experience to the squad and plenty of Brazilian flair! The Ladies have a really strong squad and an exciting season ahead which starts this weekend with a game against Birmingham."
Chelsea kick-start the third FA Women's Super League season this Sunday, 14 April, when they host Birmingham City at Staines Town's Wheatsheaf Park. Tickets can be bought at the gate and cost £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
