Francesca Kirby made a stunning comeback from injury to help Reading FC Women beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 and move to within a single point of Southern Division leaders Millwall Lionesses.
The striker, making her first start since fracturing an ankle in an F.A.Women's Cup tie back in January, scored two first half goals for the Royals and after Rosanna Lane had put them further ahead in the opening minute after the restart, Kirby completed her hat-trick to take her tally to 17 league goals for the season.
Tottenham Hotspur meanwhile continued their climb away from danger with an important 2-0 victory over Queen's Park Rangers. Robin McEvoy gave Spurs the lead and Irene Martin Garcia wrapped up a result which takes her side closer towards mid-table security.
Lewes also claimed a vital win, 1-0 against fourth placed Yeovil Town to boost their chances of climbing out of the bottom two, Kasia Viggor scoring the only goal of the game for the Sussex side.
