Reading Reserves take Junior Cup - 28 Apr 2013 - Women's Football News

Reading FC Women Reserves completed the first stage of a double trophy day for the club by winning the Berks & Bucks FA Junior Cup with a 6-0 victory over Hazlemere Sports Ladies at Abingdon United's ground.
Hazlemere Sports Ladies FC were founded in 2009 and are currently third in Dvision Two North of the Thames Valley County League. This was their first final and they had a chance to score in the opening minute through Collette Bardi. However they were two goals behind within seven minutes when Nicole Keen then Chloe Melton finished from close range.
Reading continued to look dangerous and keeper Christina Johnston made an outstanding double save to deny Deanna Peters. Skipper Kylie Wren was excellent throughout for Hazlemere and had their first two efforts on Jess Charman's goal, a volley then a free kick just over the bar.
Reading's Jasmine Brewster hit the bar from distance on 32 minutes and Hazlemere's Bardi forced a good save from Charman before Reading got a crucial third goal right on the break, Georgia Hayes sliding the ball in at full stretch. Johnston injured her back in trying to save the goal but bravely carried on in obvious discomfort and reduced mobility after the break.
Reading continued to dominate but it took until midway through the half for the lead to be extended by Rosie Page-Smith. Johnston was unable to continue at this point and Reading added two late efforts through Jaye Howlett, who was denied a hat-trick after being ruled offside. Peters also had a goal chalked off and Reading had to be content with a six-goal margin.
Reading Reserves, second in the FA Premier League Reserve Southern Division Two, fully deserved their win but Hazlemere gave a good account of themselves in their first ever final.
Hazlemere Sports: Christina Johnston, Colette Bardi, Kylie Wren, Steph McDaid, Louise White, Karen Barr, Emma Newberry, Katie-May Watts, Charlotte Dixon, Ann Whytewood, Sarah Jaffe. Subs: Stacey Robertson, Katie Speirits, Laura Baker, Sianna MacLean, Kelli Franklin.

Reading FC Women Res: Jess Charman, Katie James, Alixandria Todd, Georgia Hayes, Sophie Barrett, Sarah Thompson, Chloe Melton, Elizabeth Mills, Deanna Peters, Nicole Keen, Jasmine Brewster. Subs: Rosie Page-Smith, Jessica Winchester, Lauren Moulsley, Tara McGee, Jaye Howlett.
