Sheffield FC strengthened their position at the top of the Northern Division with a 5-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves got off to a great start by taking a second minute lead through Philippa Wilson but by the five minute mark, Sheffield were ahead after Suzanne Davies and Jodie Michalska both scored. Becky Hall hit the post as Wolves finished the first half strongly but after the break, Lisa Giampalma put Sheffield in control with their third goal and they went on to complete the win with late strikes from Lynn Goodman and Carla Ward.
Sheffield now head the table by six points after second placed Nottingham Forest were held to a goalless draw by Sporting Club Albion. Forest still possess a game in hand on the Yorkshire side and the top two are set to clash in a vital meeting on Thursday night.
A goal in each half from Nichol Forster earned Blackburn Rovers a 2-1 win away to Leicester City, a result which consolidates the Lancashire side in third place in the table.
Derby County meanwhile eased any fears of finishing at the bottom with a 3-1 victory over Newcastle Utd. Melissa Johnson scored twice and Grace John the other for Derby, with Newcastle's consolation coming from Beth Gardener.
