Portsmouth University is building a new full-size pitch, suitable for playing football, rugby, lacrosse and American football at their Langstone campus.
The new pitch will be made from synthetic grass and is a type that looks and feels just like the real thing, but can be played on for ten hours a day and lasts eight years.
There will also be further investment in creating a double-sided spectator viewing between the existing hockey pitch and the new pitch, a new hard surfaced warm up area and two five-a-side pitches will be created. As well as this, the first team football pitch will be completely dug up, full drainage installed and it will be levelled and seeded to a high standard.
This near-£1m project will begin at the end of this month and be ready by the end of September and will be available to all students and affiliated sports teams, including University of Portsmouth's Sunday teams who compete in the FA pyramid of women's football, with the first team competing in the South West Combination against the likes of Oxford United, Swindon Town, Plymouth Argyle, Keynsham Town, Exeter City, Southampton Saints to name but a few, and the reserve team competing in the Hampshire County Women's League.
