Reading FC Women clinched the F A Women's Premier League Southern Division title in style with a match to spare after a 2-0 win over Millwall Lionesses at the New Den.
The Royals created the majority of the chances right through a fast paced encounter but had to wait until midway through the second half to convert. Fittingly it was the League's leading scorer Fran Kirby who broke the deadlock on 70 minutes, Receiving the ball on the edge of the area, Kirby jinked past the last defender before beating Frankie Gibbs for her 20th league goal of the season.
Becky Jane doubled the advantage two minutes later after her initial effort had been well saved by Gibbs. Earlier both Reading attackers had been denied by fine saves and had also put very good chances wide.
Although the title win brought no promotion, it was celebrated with enthusiasm by players and management in front of a good crowd. Both teams are now FA WSL bound and both played a full part in an absorbing title race to mark the final season of WPL Southern Division football.
