Cup Final joy for Carshalton
 Women's Football News 14 May 2013
Carshalton Athletic 2 MSA Ladies 1
The John Greenacre Memorial Trophy Final saw two members of the London & South East Regional League Division One (London) do battle in a fiercely contested match.
Carshalton Athletic took the honours with a 2-1 victory over MSA Ladies who were involved in their third JGMT Final in a row.
Carshalton took the lead from a penalty in the sixth minute when Atefeh Heivary was adjudged to have handled as Alison Hall threatened the MSA goal. Danielle Davies converted the spot kick via the underside of the bar. Ella Bale nearly added to the Robins' lead from 20 yards and Alison Robertson headed a Tamara Graham corner straight into Natalie Burnett's hands.
MSA came more into the match as the half developed and equalised on 34 minutes when Irisha Smith beat the offside trap to finish well past Carshalton keeper Katie Povey.
Carshalton again started the better after the break and retook the lead on 51 minutes. Bale was able to slot home a right wing cross from ten yards at the far post and the lead was nearly extended two minutes later when Graham fired a shot wide from 20 yards.
There was little to choose between the teams during a physical second half. MSA went close to equalising on 82 minutes and Carshalton almost settled the contest a minute later but were denied by a good save from Burnett. Katrina Smith was closest to forcing extra time but her cross drifted on to the roof of the net and Carshalton were able to celebrate a result which mirrored the outcome of their League encounter six weeks ago.
Carshalton Athletic Ladies were formed in 2011 and this was their first Final victory. With three League matches to play, including a return match away to MSA next Sunday, they have an outside chance of winning the title if Fulham Compton OB slip up in their final match. MSA, building a reputation for lengthy Cup runs, still have four matches left owing to their exploits this season.
MSA Ladies: Natalie Burnett, Venetia Stuart, Lekeisha Wilson, Atefeh Heivary, Gosia McBride, Katrina Smith, Marta Ferreira, Irisha Smith, Kaisha Lawrence, Faye Callaway, Samarit Ruth Bereket. Subs: Ashleigh Andrews, Grace Brown, Ashley Fletcher, Navena Quire, Lekesha James.

Carshalton Athletic: Katie Povey, Cindy Colliver, Danielle Davies, Ella Beagley, Emma Murphy, Amy Robertson, Alison Hall, Tamara Graham, Ella Bale, Georgia O'Halloran, Laura Curtis. Subs: Kirsten Mosegaard, Beatrice Merritt, Chelcie Franks, Emily Curtis, Kadesha Rose.
