The winners of the North and South S-Tech Cambridgeshire Women's League divisions met on Wednesday to determine the overall Champions. Bar Hill, winners of the South Division, were crowned champions by beating Huntingdon Town Ladies, winner of the North Division, 1-0.
The game, hosted by Chatteris Town FC, was played in an excellent spirit and both teams created several chances in the early stages of the match.
Huntingdon thought they had taken the lead just before half time after a Sophie Marheineke corner was headed in at the back post by Georgie Goodwin. However, the referee deemed foul play and the goal was disallowed leaving the match goalless at half time.
Bar Hill stepped up the pace in the second half. The pressure led to a scramble on the goal line which was eventually cleared by the Huntingdon defence.
The goal came when a free kick was awarded to Bar Hill ten yards outside the box. Helen Carder whipped the ball to the back post where Natalie Wells had made a well timed run to volley the ball into the back of the net.
Bar Hill almost doubled their lead in the dying stages of the game but were denied by Huntingdon defender, Stef Day, who headed the ball off the goal line to keep the final score 1-0.
Both teams were presented with their respective league winners' trophies and Bar Hill received the Championship shield.
