In a nervy encounter, Stockport County stretched their unbeaten run to twelve consecutive matches by defeating Chester City 2-1 after extra time to regain the Cheshire FA Ladies Shield, which they last won in 2010.
A Lucy Milward header on 60 minutes looked to be enough but a spirited Chester equalised in the closing stages to take the tie into extra time.
As the match looked certain to be decided on penalties and, coincidentally, news of Chelsea's last gasp winner leaked out in the match with Benfica, up popped Beth Langford to strike home her 14th goal of the season to much sighs of relief and joy for Stockport.
The win capped a remarkable turnaround in Stockport's fortunes since the New Year under the managership of Kerry Jackson and Jane Webb. County were at the foot of the Northern Combination and in serious relegation trouble but the unbeaten run has taken them to sixth place in the table and now a County Cup success.
