C & K Basildon have continued their rapid rise up the women's football pyramid and capped a marvellous season last week by clinching the Eastern Region League Premier Division title.
The Eastern League is traditionally one of the most tightly contested at Regional League level but a strong finish to the season meant that C & K eased home with two games to spare, putting themselves beyond the reach of their rivals with a 2-1 win away to Great Shelford.
C & K started the season well and won all of their opening six league matches before the run was halted by a defeat away to Bedford Ladies, which was to be their only setback in the entire campaign. In the meantime the club embarked on a good run in the F.A.Women's Cup, which included a win over South East Combination side Arlesey Town on their way to the First Round proper where they were knocked out by Leafield Athletic.
The club continued its good form in the league with only Haringey Borough and Colchester Town taking points off them before a five-match winning run carried them off to third Championship in four years, and Combination League football next season.
On top of this, C & K also achieved the accolade of winning the Essex County Cup for the first time. They put out Colchester Town, East Thurrock Utd and Billericay Town on their way to the Final where they claimed a shock 1-0 win over Premier League side Colchester Utd, Charlie Dolby scoring the only goal of the game.
Manager Peter King is well supported by First Team coach Steve Tilson - formerly manager of Southend United - and Alan Richards (Sports Therapist). The team is captained by Jenny Brown-Wealls who is now in her sixth season with the club.
At present, C & K have the best goals scored record in the division as well as the best defensive record. Nicola Carty is leading scorer with 26 league and cup goals in 28 appearances whilst Cup Final winning goalscorer Charlie Dolby has weighed in with a further 18.
Further success could also be on the way for the club as the reserves currently sit on top of Division One of the Essex County Women's League and are closing in on the title, as well as promotion to the Eastern Region League for next season.
C & K Basildon title winning squad: Melanie Kinsalla, Robyn Strauss, Claire Lacey, Jenny Brown-Wealls, Nicola Carty, Angela Arnold, Carly Eagles, Aimee Drane, Charlie Dolby, Kirsty Thain, Kerry Gardner, Candice Eyre, Laura Bryant, Lucy Wyatt, Charlotte Hopwood, Lylie Frost, Karly Hunt, Nicole Farmer, Lindsay Sibbons.
