Liverpool 3 (Dowie 19, Horwood og 47, Fors 57) Lincoln Ladies 2 (Cantrell 8, Hamilton 75)
Liverpool went joint top of the FA WSL as they initially came from behind to win 3-2 against Lincoln Ladies.
Despite taking the lead in a five-goal thriller, Lincoln couldn't prevent the home side coming back, a Precious Hamilton consolation bringing the scoreline to within one goal.
It was the away side, looking for their first league win, who started the strongest. Remi Allen picked the ball up in the middle of the park, before feeding the ball down the line to the lively Jess Clarke. The winger beat the defender, and despite her first cross being blocked, her second cross found Hamilton, the striker missed the shot, but laid it to Allen whose shot was blocked.
With just eight minutes on the clock, Lincoln took the lead. Liverpool defender Lucy Bronze played the ball back to Sarah Quantrill in the Liverpool goal, however there wasn't enough on the pass and Carla Cantrell stole in to poke the ball past Quantrill and open the scoring.
Just three minutes later Cantrell almost got in again in identical circumstances, Quantrill, this time, just beating the Lincoln striker to the ball.
On 19 minutes, Liverpool were level. A cross into the Lincoln box found Amanda Da Costa in space, the midfielder knocked the ball back to Natasha Dowie who, despite Sophie Bradley getting a toe in, reacted quickest and finished high into the net.
Lincoln reacted well to conceding the equaliser, Hamilton bursting into the box and finding Sophie Walton 20 yards out, but the midfielder's shot flew over the bar. Walton was in attacking action again four minutes later. Cantrell found her team mate through the middle and as Walton looked to be bearing down on goal, Bronze recovered well and thwarted the former Leeds player.
With ten minutes to go before half time Louise Fors almost put Liverpool ahead. The midfielder drove through the midfield and unleashed a vicious shot form 35 yards which flew just past Karen Bardsley's post.
It was Fors again, on the stoke of half time, who came closest to beating Bardsley. The midfielder's free kick from 25 yards beat everyone but the bar and Lincoln cleared for a corner.
Within two minutes of the restart the home side were ahead. A short corner was played back to Fara Williams, the England midfielder whipped in a cross, deflecting wickedly off Bonnie Horwood's head, beating a wrong footed Bardsley and flying into the net.
Ten minutes later Liverpool were two ahead. Nicole Rolser broke down the Liverpool right and pulled the ball back to Fors. The midfielder finished neatly from 12 yards, the ball striking Bardsley on the way in.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, Hamilton halved the deficit. The striker picked the ball up in the middle, beating two defenders, before hitting a shot which curled away from Quantrill and dipped into the bottom left corner of the goal.
The goal gave Lincoln belief again and four minutes later they were almost level. A cross caused havoc in the Liverpool box, the ball eventually falling to Clarke who poked just wide.
As the game entered the last ten minutes it was only an offside flag which prevented Hamilton being through, before the striker almost turned provider, her pass to Martha Harris ending with the full back firing over.
It was still Lincoln who were pressing during injury time, looking for the equaliser, whilst containing Liverpool on the counter attack. Their pressure eventually forced a corner, however even with goalkeeper Bardsley joining the attack, the equaliser couldn't be found and the referee blew for full time as the corner was cleared.
