Scotland win in Iceland
 Women's Football News 3 Jun 2013

Iceland 2 (Gunnarsdóttir 26, Magnúsdóttir 52)
Scotland 3 (Crichton 11, Thomson 13, L.Ross 33)

Scotland disrupted Iceland's preparations for the Euro 2013 Finals in Sweden this summer, as three goals in an impressive first half sealed victory in Reykjavik.

Scotland were missing a number of experienced players, including Kim Little, Suzanne Grant and Rhonda Jones, in addition to those on the long term injury list, as they inflicted only Iceland's second home defeat since 2006.

Anna Signeul's side made a flying start, as they stunned their hosts by racing into a 2-0 lead inside the first quarter of an hour. Glasgow City midfielder Leanne Crichton opened the scoring in the 11th minute and Celtic's Emily Thomson, scoring her first international goal in just her fourth appearance, doubled the lead two minutes later.

Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir pulled one back for Iceland, but Leanne Ross restored Scotland's two-goal advantage in the 33rd minute with a powerful effort from a Hayley Lauder corner.

Iceland made four changes at half time as they sought to find their way back into the match. Hólmfríður Magnúsdóttir found the net in the 52nd minute as the home side began to dominate.

Under-19 captain Siobhan Hunter, and her Scotland youth team-mates Claire Emslie and Caroline Weir, were all called up for the first time for the match as Signeul's injury list grew. All three won their first caps from the bench as Scotland held on for a deserved win, and confirmed a growing strength in depth ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying campaign, which kicks off against the Faroe Islands in September.

Scotland are next in action in another away friendly match against Europe's top-ranked side Germany in Essen on Saturday 15 June.

Scotland: Gemma Fay, Hayley Lauder, Jennifer Beattie, Frankie Brown, Leanne Ross, Emily Thomson, Megan Sneddon, Leanne Crichton, Joanne Love, Lisa Evans, Jane Ross. Subs: Shannon Lynn, Siobhan Hunter, Eilish McSorley, Claire Emslie, Emma Mitchell, Joelle Murray, Caroline Weir.
