Keepers coached by Charlton legend
 Women's Football News 4 Jun 2013
Keepers coached by Charlton legend - 4 Jun 2013 - Women's Football NewsFormer Charlton Athletic favourite Dean Kiely was back at the club last week, working with the women's and girls' goalkeepers, in association with Demelza Hospice Care for Children.
Kiely, who was named Charlton player of the year in 2002 and 2004, put on a specialist goalkeeping session at the club's Sparrows Lane Training Ground. The Republic of Ireland international, who made 248 appearances for the Addicks, worked with Women's first team goalkeeper Megen Lynch, Courtney Shanly from the Under-17s as well as Under-15s duo Rachel Pollard and Elizabeth Todd plus goalkeeper coach Jeremy Parsons.
Club Sponsor Stephen King, from PHSC plc, won the auction item at a recent Demelza Hospice Care for Children event with Dean and fellow Charlton fans favourite Steve Brown.
Commenting on the training session, Stephen King said: "Dean introduced a new dimension to our coaching routine and I know that each of the goalkeepers has gained a lot from the experience and learned a great deal. I was most impressed with the enthusiastic way in which he conducted the evening, taking the time to ensure that everyone was fully involved.
"On behalf of Charlton Athletic Women's and Girls' FC, I would like to thank Dean for an excellent session, which was thoroughly enjoyed by each and every one of us."
First Team keeper Megen Lynch added: "It was an honour to be coached by a Charlton legend, an idol of mine."
Dean Kiely, who is the Goalkeeping Coach with Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, said: "I was delighted to come back down to Sparrows Lane and put the session on.
"It was good to be back at my old training ground and to catch up with so many familiar faces. The four 'keepers were all keen to learn and I'm delighted that they enjoyed the night. I would like to thank Stephen King for bidding for the item at the recent Ace Media Sporting Dinner, where we raised some much needed funds for Demelza Hospice Care for Children."
