Reading FC Women manager Kelly Chambers has hailed her team's achievement in winning in the Southern Division title.
The Royals had been relegated from the top flight twelve months ago but Kelly told Women's Soccer Scene: "Our goal at the start of the season was to win the league.
"We had a great start, beating Colchester 5-1 and then winning 7-0 against Gillingham but Millwall and Brighton were always on our toes, so we had to stay focused."
However Kelly picked out two matches against two other teams as standout games from the whole campaign. "Our toughest game was Yeovil away," she recalled. "We played them in the League Cup the week before and fielded a different team to that which we played in the league game the week after, but it was still a difficult game [Reading won 1-0].
"The best game was away to West Ham. Losing 1-0 at half time, the girls really turned the game on its head in the second half and came out and won 2-1. Obviously Millwall away at the New Den, where we won 2-0 and won the league, was a fantastic night."
Reading won the title by a margin of eight points and a goal difference of 41, as well as retaining the County Cup, and also received the news that they have been granted FA WSL status in 2014.
Another honour came as striker Francesca Kirby finished as top goalscorer over all three divisions of the Premier League with 21 goals, this despite missing part of the season after breaking her ankle against Lewes in the F.A.Women's Cup.
"Everyone played an important role," said Kelly. "The players were fabulous all season. They really knuckled down, showed great character at times and really came together as a team this season.
"Roberto Fung, our Kitman, is also a massive part of our club. This man makes sure the kit is washed every week, cleans the players' boots, bring them sweets etc before the game and at half time, and cleans up after them."
