The 12th Annual City of York Girls Football Tournament will be taking place on Sunday 9th June.
City of York Girls are expecting 65 Girls' football teams to attend the event which is once again being hosted by Poppleton Junior Football Club. The format for the day is similar in style to the forthcoming 2013 UEFA Women's European Championships that takes place in Sweden in July, with an initial group stage for each of the seven age groups that then leads to a knockout phase and then a final.
England international Jess Clarke, who will hope to feature in Sweden, will be attending the event and will present the medals and trophies to the winning teams.
The FA have also supplied a large England flag for the Girls' to add good luck messages to which will given to the England women's team to wish them all the best in their own tournament.
We are also delighted to confirm that following difficulty securing a sponsor for this years event, local company Stoneacre Motor Group who are based in Huntington, have come forward and saved the day.
Paul Ramsey, Privilege Customer Manager at Stoneacre York said: "We are delighted to support this event. At Stoneacre, we are really keen to encourage all sport in the York area and help out where we can and it's great to see Girls' football thriving and doing so well. It's going to be a fantastic day for all of the players."
