Cardiff City Ladies FC are to create a new third senior team this coming season that will play in the South Wales Women's League.
The club sees the third team as a development side for girls moving up from the Under-16's junior section, forming a stepping stone between junior football and the clubs other two already recognised teams that play in the FA National Premier League.
In previous seasons the step up from the Under-16 team to the first or reserve teams has been a big jump for some players having never played senior football and Cardiff hope this new development team will help address this issue and help to nurture and develop the youngsters through the squad system.
Commenting on this new and exciting development, Club Chairwomen Michele Adams said: "The new development side will be run by our two successful coaches Lesley Judd and Dean Thomas from our Under-16s section and we are confident that this will prove to be an asset in developing our young players at an intermediate level giving them plenty of game time and developing their technical and tactical awareness ready for senior football in later years.
"We now have a full pathway for players from as young as 10 years of age through to full senior first team level and would expect at least 30 per cent of our senior team to have come through from our junior ranks in the future."
Cardiff City Ladies are in the process of recruiting for all three sides so anyone interested in playing for the new Development side or either the Reserves or First team, the club is holding a trial on July 7th at Pontcanna, Fields Park Road, Cardiff, CF11 9HZ, from 2pm till 4pm.
