The FA Girls' Football Festival in association with Continental Tyres, visited Basildon Selex Sports and Leisure Club, Gardiners Way, on Saturday 13th July.
Hundreds of girls, new to the game and regular players, took part in the free programme aimed at encouraging girls to get involved in the game. The event was organised through the support of Essex FA.
The participants, aged from 5-17 years old, were accompanied by FA WSL players Nicola Hobbs and Bethany England from Doncaster Rovers Belles. The players delighted the youngsters by taking part in the coaching sessions. They also signed autographs, took part in photography, and offered top tips and advice on how to get involved in football. The inspired girls also had the chance to ask their burning questions in a Q&A session.
The format of the day was fun and active, combining football, lifestyle and music. The festival was led by FA approved coaches and activities included skills and drills, interactive games (target shots, speed cage, batak boards) and mini matches inside an inflatable pitch. There were also mini matches run by Essex FA alongside the festival.
Girls had the chance to pose with the FA WSL, the Cyprus Cup and the Continental Cup trophies. In addition, the loveable FA WSL mascot Berry the bear was in attendance and there was hair braiding and face painting to add to the festival atmosphere.
