BT Sport announce live WSL matches
 Women's Football News 24 Jul 2013
BT Sport has announced the top matches it will show exclusively live from the FA Women's Super League.
Viewers will be able to follow the exciting conclusion of the FA WSL, as BT Sport follows leaders Liverpool live three times and current champions Arsenal at least twice.
The channels will also have live coverage of the London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal on August 29, as well as the Merseyside derby with Liverpool at home to Everton on September 12.
The first live game on BT Sport following the UEFA Women's Euro 2013 Finals will be the big clash between leaders Liverpool and two-times champions Arsenal at Halton Stadium on Saturday, August 3. Kick off is 7pm.
The festival of football kicks off earlier in the day at Anfield where Liverpool FC will honour Steven Gerrard with a testimonial match. The Reds will face reigning Greek Champions and European giants Olympiakos in their only pre-season match, kick off 12.45pm.
Liverpool season ticket holders and those attending the Steven Gerrard testimonial will be able to attend the Liverpool Ladies match at Halton for free in celebration of the special occasion.
Following a fantastic start to the first half of the season Liverpool will be looking to continue their success and have strengthened their unit further with exciting new signings, with New Zealand International Sarah Gregorius, England Under-19 internationals Ellie Stewart and Katie Zelem who join from Everton and Manchester United respectively and Kate Longhurst who signed from Chelsea. In addition to the four new recruits, goalkeeper Rachael Laws has signed a new contract until the end of the season.
Defending WSL champions and reigning FA Women's Cup winners Arsenal will be looking to make up for lost ground. They will also be kicking off the second half of the season with new signings, with Scottish Internationals Emma Mitchell and Caroline Weir, who will be making their debut for the Gunners.
Following the announcement that the match will be the first FA WSL match to be broadcast live on BT Sport, both sides will be looking forward to showcasing the skills and quality of women's professional football on national television and are urging fans to come down and be part of an exciting weekend of football.
Liverpool manager Matt Beard commented: "This is a really exciting weekend for Liverpool fans with two massive matches taking place on the same day, going live on BT Sport. We are obviously delighted with our new signings and are hoping to continue our fantastic run so far. Arsenal are a great side and it promises to be a class occasion to kick off the second half of the season. We are really hoping such an exciting fixture will attract a good crowd."
BT Sport's live games from the league will conclude with a match to be chosen at a later stage on either the penultimate or last round of the season, on September 15 or 29. However, BT Sport will also have live coverage of the season finale Continental Cup Final on Friday, October 4.
There will also be a weekly highlights show, starting at 6pm on August 6 and running for eight weeks until the season concludes in October.
Simon Green, director of BT Sport, said: "Fans of the FA WSL will be delighted with the tremendous line-up of exclusively live matches we've got in store at BT Sport.
"Starting with the current league leaders Liverpool Ladies taking on the current champions Arsenal Ladies, we are showing the best games live.
"The high profile coverage of England at the UEFA Women's Euro 2013 competition in Sweden is sure to further increase the awareness and appreciation for the women's game in the UK. We believe the FA WSL can develop and grow significantly in the next few years and we hope that we'll be able to advance that process with some stimulating and top quality live coverage."
Kelly Simmons, director of Women's Football at The FA, added: "We are delighted to start working with BT Sport on our live FA WSL coverage, the plans in place are very exciting and we are all looking forward to the return of season three post-Euro 2013, with a strong selection of live matches.
