Liverpool clear after fightback
 Women's Football News 17 Aug 2013

Liverpool 4 (Williams 20, Rolser 53,84, Dowie 82) Chelsea 3 (Jakobsson 2, Aluko 7, Easton og 78)
Liverpool have gone three points clear at the top of the FA WSL after a late goal from Nicole Rolser secures win over Chelsea.

However this did not tell the whole story as the Reds fought back from 2-0 and 3-2 down to eventually claim the points and keep their title challenge alive with their second 4-3 victory on successive Saturdays.

Chelsea were two goals ahead inside seven minutes. A mix up between Liverpool left back Corina Schroder and goalkeeper Sarah Quantrill allowed Swedish striker Sofia Jakobsson to capitalise.

The home side were still recovering from that setback when the advantage was doubled. A swift Chelsea counter attack set Eniola Aluko clear and the England striker clinically found the bottom corner.

Liverpool should have been back in the contest on 17 minutes but Louise Fors blasted over. They did not have to wait long to alter the score though as shortly after a Fara Williams free kick eluded Carly Telford in the Chelsea goal and bounced in.

It was nearly 2-2 when Da Costa side footed wide. Going the other way, Chelsea began to get frustrated by the home team's offside trap.

The second half started slowly until Rolser's tumble in the area led to unanswered Liverpool appeals for a penalty. However, Liverpool were soon celebrating as a corner from Fors was headed towards goal by Gemma Bonner and Rolser forced it in.

Parity was short lived. After Natasha Dowie had been superbly foiled by Telford, Chelsea broke and Jakobsson's cross was headed into her own net by Becky Easton.

With a dozen minutes remaining it seemed like Liverpool's third league defeat of the season was inevitable. Instead, the Merseysiders rallied and a brilliant driven cross from Rolser led to Dowie heading in.

There were 84 minutes on the clock when the same pair combined again. This time it was Dowie providing, pouncing on a loose ball and squaring it to Rolser who finished on the line. The sight of Matt Beard and his backroom staff on the pitch celebrating illustrated exactly what the goal meant.
