Glasgow City sign Jess Fishlock
 Women's Football News 20 Aug 2013
Glasgow City are delighted to announce the capture of Jess Fishlock on loan from US professional side Seattle Reign until the end of the season.
The current Welsh international Captain is without doubt one of the top players in Europe, highlighted by her Players Player of the Year Award in the English FA Super League in 2012 when playing for Bristol Academy and Player of the Week in only her second week in the US with Seattle Reign in 2013.
Easily the biggest signing in the history of the Scottish women's game, City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black believes the signing of Fishlock highlights the ambition of the club. He said, "I believe the signing of Jess is significant, not only for the club but also the country. As a club we have not been in a privileged position of being a worldwide brand, we have had to earn the right to be regarded as an ambitious and upcoming club. Whilst we continue to set new records at home, our aim is to make progress on the European stage and the signing of Jess highlights this. She will bring experience, versatility, pace and intelligence to the team and most importantly will raise the standard of the players around her. That's what top players do, they make good players better players both on and off the park."
Commenting on her decision to join the Scottish Champions, Fishlock said, "I look forward to joining Glasgow City for the remainder of the season, I believe it's a perfect fit for both myself and the club. I have followed the club closely over the last few years and respect it immensely.
"I want to do all I can to help the club with both their domestic season and their Champions League campaign.
"Glasgow City is a club that is going to continue to grow to the heights of the women's game and I am excited to be able to play a part in that."
Fishlock has just finished her first playing season with Seattle Reign where she has been a vital player for Head Coach Laura Harvey's team, taking to the field in all but one of their matches. Playing alongside her Reign team mates of the calibre and status of the likes of US superstars Megan Rapinoe and Hope Solo, Fishlock undoubtedly brings an experience and stature to Glasgow City and Scotland which is sure to excite the fans and help raise the profile of the women's game.
The Welsh Captain will go straight into the City domestic SWPL squad after her international clearance, but most importantly joins the Scottish Champions for their all important last 32 in the Champions League. City's opponents will be known after the draw at UEFA headquarters in Nyon on the 5th September.
