Combination Leagues round-up
 Women's Football News 20 Aug 2013
Northern Combination
Chester-le-Street Town made a dramatic introduction to Combination League football as they ran out 6-2 winners away to Sheffield Utd Community on the opening day of the season. Rachel Winchester and Haley English each scored twice and they were joined on the scoresheet by Rachel Kay and Rae Taylor, who netted from the penalty spot.
Huddersfield Town also recorded a 6-2 victory to start off their season, away to Wakefield. The prolific Emily Heckler picked up where she left off last season by hitting a hat-trick, with the others coming from Faye Chadwick, Kate Mallin and Laura Windle to give new manager Glen Preston a winning start.
Chorley came agonisingly close to winning the league last season and they have started off well this time around, notching up a 4-1 success at Tranmere Rovers. Scarlett Smith was on target twice for the Lancashire side along with Vicky Coope and Natalie Parry.
Stockport County got off to a good start by beating Cheadle Heath Nomads 3-1. Jeneyah Webb, Hanifa Douglas and Georgia France scored the goals to earn County the points.
The honours were shared as Leeds City Vixens and Middlesbrough battled out a 1-1 draw, Kathryn Smith scoring for the Vixens with 'Boro replying through Danielle Scarr.
Midland Combination
Leicester City Women, relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, made a good start by scoring five without reply against Radcliffe Olympic.
Rotherham Utd also started with a 5-0 win against Leafield Athletic. Klare Osborne gave Rotherham a first half lead and they added further goals after the break through Fay Cassidy, Nat Shaw, Jade Tilling and Kirsty Richardson.
Loughborough Foxes meanwhile notched up a 5-2 victory over Curzon Ashton. The Foxes scored five times during a ten minute first spell, captain Vicky Brackenbury firing home from 20 yards before Mel Reid, Jodie White and Row Davies (2) added further goals.
Copsewood (Coventry) made an encouraging start by beating Loughborough Students 3-0. After a goalless first half, an own goal put Copsewood ahead early in the second half and then Nicola Foskett and Hannah Jones found the net to wrap up the win for their side.
Newly promoted Solihull Ladies are off the mark after a goal from Jay Madden earned them a 1-1 draw against last season's runners-up Leicester City Ladies.
South East Combination
Cambridge Women are the opening day leaders after running out 9-0 winners over Brentwood Town. Despite having several members unavailable and handing out six debuts, Sophie Thompson bagged four goals to spearhead the win for Cambridge whose other strikes came from Nuala Wayne (2), Sarah Mosley, Emily Reed and Faith Hewitt.
Queen's Park Rangers made a good start to life back in the Combination, beating Enfield Town 3-1 thanks to a goal apiece from Chloe Fogarty, Lauren Gage, Kasha Petit.
Denham Utd's first match following promotion turned out to be an exciting one, edging out Norwich City by the odd goal in nine. Lauren Cox (2), Holleigh Marsh, Charlotte Stead and Rebecca Scott were all on target for the Middlesex side (see match report).
The other newly promoted side, C & K Basildon, also got off to a winning start as they defeated Luton Town 3-2. However the Essex side needed to overturn a two-goal deficit at half time with second half strikes from Jenny Brown-Wealls (penalty), Charlie Dolby and Nicola Carty giving them the points.
Milton Keynes Dons also staged a second half comeback in their narrow 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town, who finished as runners-up last season. The Dons had trailed 2-1 at the break but secured the win thanks to Eden Washington, Emily Mann and Jess Cutting.
The South West Combination commences on Sunday 1st September
