Late Lana leveller for Scotland
 Women's Football News 21 Aug 2013

Serbia 1 (Podvac 29) Scotland 1 (Clelland 90)
Substitute Lana Clelland scored a last minute goal as Scotland earned a 1-1 draw with Serbia in their final preparation match ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying campaign.

With a number of first team regulars including Kim Little, Jennifer Beattie, Lisa Evans and Megan Sneddon all unavailable, a much changed Scotland side took to the pitch at the FA of Serbia Sports Centre in Stara Pazora.

Scotland started brightly with Suzanne Malone, strike partner Jane Ross and Leanne Ross all coming close in the first 15 minutes. But it was the home side that took the lead as Podovac got on the end of a cut back to beat Shannon Lynn in the Scotland goal.

Scotland, boosted by the return of central defender Rachel Corsie after a lengthy knee injury, dominated possession and prevented the hosts from creating any further clear cut chances, despite a slow surface hampering their usual passing style.

It looked as though Anna Signeul's side would be left to rue their missed chances, before an eventful final fifteen minutes.

Glasgow City forward Sarah Crilly came on for Joelle Murray, while Clelland replaced Joanne Love in midfield - with both players winning their second caps - as Signeul switched to a 3-4-3 formation.

Scotland pressed forward, and the breakthrough finally came in the 90th minute. Jane Ross sent in a long ball from the left, and Clelland beat a Serbian defender to the ball before firing past the advancing goalkeeper.

As the game entered injury time, Crilly hit the post and Malone followed up to put the ball in the net, but her effort was flagged offside.

After the match, Anna Signeul told www.scottishfa.co.uk: "This was a very competitive game, and we got ourselves level through sheer determination.

"The pitch was very slow, the grass was long and it was very dry, but I would say we had around 70% of the possession and created far more chances.

"It looked as though it was just going to be one of those days, but I am delighted for Lana, coming in to the squad as a late call up and grabbing a goal.

"We had quite a few players out, but I am really pleased by the contribution from the players who came in to the squad. We are concentrating on building strength in depth, so it is very important that these players get game time and show us what they can do.

"Overall, I was pleased with the performance. Serbia are a good side, who only lost to England and Holland in their Euro qualifying group. We were behind for most of the match, but we looked very determined, kept going and kept believing.

"It was very positive that players like Suzanne Malone and Shannon Lynn got 90 minutes, with young players like Lana Clelland, Siobhan Hunter and Sarah Crilly all getting on to the pitch. We were also delighted to get Rachel Corsie back in to the starting line-up ahead of the qualifiers, and she looks very close to getting back to her pre-injury form."

Scotland: Shannon Lynn, Frankie Brown, Eilish McSorley (sub Siobhan Hunter 79mins), Rachel Corsie, Hayley Lauder, Joelle Murray (sub Sarah Crilly 65mins), Joanne Love (sub Lana Clelland 75mins), Leanne Crichton, Leanne Ross, Suzanne Malone, Jane Ross. Subs not used: Gemma Fay, Nicola Docherty, Lisa Robertson.
