Wales bow out with heads high
 Women's Football News 25 Aug 2013

Wales 0 France 3 (Toletti 28, Le Bihan 35,47)
Wales bowed out of the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championships with a 3-0 defeat to a strong France side at Haverfordwest.

However in front of a crowd of 1,134 at Bridge Meadow, the Welsh side battled hard against their opponents who now look forward to a semi final tie against Germany on Wednesday.

France worked to try and impose their passing, possession game on the home side but found themselves restricted to long shots during the opening stages. Wales captain Lauren Price, who has had a good tournament, tried to marshal her players but they could not prevent Sandie Toletti from giving the French a 28th minute lead with a shot from distance.

Lea Declercq went close to a second when her shot was tipped over by Alice Evans but shortly afterwards, Clarisse Le Bihan did double her side's lead with a low shot.

Wales introduced Shanelle Edwards as a half time substitute and she went close early on but within two minutes of the restart, France were 3-0 ahead. This time it was Le Bihan scoring her second with another strike from outside of the area, which went in off a post.

France continued to dictate matters and pressed for more goals which would have seen them top the group but Wales, to their immense credit, kept on fighting and refused to yield.

Evans was kept busy as she made saves from Diani, Le Bihan, Atamaniuk, Tounkara and Karchouni and Wales continued to work incredibly hard to ensure they exit their first ever major competition with heads held high.
