Gurr-eat day for Gillingham
 Women's Football News 27 Aug 2013
Gillingham took the opening day honours in the Southern Division and head the fledgling table after they defeated Keynsham Town 4-1.
Charlotte Gurr had a terrific day in front of goal for the Gills, leading the scoring with a hat-trick with Danielle Carlton adding the other at the expense of the newly promoted side, whose consolation strike came from Vera Bernabe.
It was not a good day for the other newcomers either as Chesham Utd were also beaten 3-1 by Portsmouth. Kirsty McGee, Leeta Rutherford and Lucy Quinn all netted for Pompey with Nat Adams replying (see match report).
Coventry City's home match with Lewes was played at the Ricoh Arena and the Sky Blues rose to the occasion with a 2-0 victory, which was given to them by second half goals from Helen Dermody and Destiney Toussaint.
Cardiff City Ladies got off to a good start with a 2-1 victory away to Brighton & Hove Albion. Sarah Wiltshire fired Cardiff ahead with a strike from the edge of the area midway through the first half but just after the hour mark, Lily Agg equalised via a fiercely struck volley. Cardiff were back in front two minutes later when Wiltshire netted her second from the penalty spot and the Welsh international was denied her hat-trick late on by a good save from Charlotte Sole.
Charlton Athletic were narrow 2-1 winners in their local derby against West Ham Utd. After the irst half was goalless, the Hammers took the lead eight minutes after the restart when Cherelle Albert scored against her former club. Kim Dixson equalised on the hour via a free kick and with five minutes remaining, substitute Emma Harrison gave her side victory with an excellent finish.
