Brent Hills was satisfied with England's performance in their 6-0 victory over Belarus but was keen to play things down ahead of Thursday's next qualifier against Turkey.
The interim Head Coach saw his charges run out easy winners at Bournemouth but stressed: "One swallow doesn't make a summer.
"I am pleased that we tried to implement the things we worked on in training. I didn't go well all the time but they had a go.
"An early goal settles the nerves a bit and leads to more composure. Clinical finishes are worth their weight in gold - we could have scored more but I am pleased that we created so many chances."
After team selections during the Euro 2013 Finals created much debate and criticism from many quarters, a lot of attention was being focused on the starting line up and Brent revealed the challenge he had set the players to try and win a place in the team.
"I told the players I would go on what I saw in training, and that's what we did," he said. "Those who weren't picked were very unlucky as they all worked hard. We will train again from Monday and go from there.
"I was pleased there was no complacency [today] and I will do my best to make sure that happens on Thursday against Turkey."
