Sheffield regain leadership
 Women's Football News 2 Oct 2013

Sheffield FC made a swift return to the top of the Northern Division after they defeated Leeds Utd 6-2.

Jodie Michalska gave Sheffield a fourteenth minute lead with Krystle Johnston adding a second on the stroke of half time. Kirsty Richardson and Suzanne Davies then netted goals in quick succession before Carey Huegett pulled one back for Leeds. Johnston and Davies went on to complete their doubles to seal Sheffield's fourth straight win, with Huegett keeping up her own good start to the season by grabbing a late consolation, her sixth goal of the season.

Derby County notched up their second victory in successive weeks against Preston North End, a 5-2 win which sees them move up into second place. Natalie Reay and Melissa Johnson ensured that Derby led by two goals at half time and Reay increased their lead with her second goal after the break. Paige Forster and Laura Walker replied for Preston.

Stoke City had started the day as leaders but they are back in third after going down to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest, who are now the division's other unbeaten team. Amber Hughes gave Forest an early lead with Stephanie Smith adding a second just after the half hour mark. Hannah Keryakoplis pulled a goal back for the home side before Ellie Clarke scored Forest's third, Stoke reduced the arrears on the hour once again but Natasha Meade made the game safe two minutes from time.

Blackburn Rovers returned to winning ways with a 4-2 success against previously unbeaten Newcastle Utd. After Nichol Forster had scored twice in the opening 25 minutes, Keeleigh Savage put Rovers in control with the third goal, ten minutes before half time. Newcastle staged a fightback after the break with Jessica Havelock and Megan Pyper pulling goals back but Stephanie Marsh eased any Blackburn nerves by scoring the clincher in the dying minutes.

It was a good day for Bradford City as they claimed their first ever Premier League victory, 2-0 away to Sporting Club Albion. Both of City's goals came in the first half, Faye Boshell putting them into a sixth minute lead and Caroline Omboyi adding the other ahead of half time.
