Burnley Ladies v City of Manchester
 Women's Football News 5 Oct 2013

F.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
City of Manchester emerged as winners from a penalty shootout against Accrington Girls & Ladies after the teams had shared a 5-5 draw. They will face familiar opposition to themselves in the Second Round Qualifying, having been drawn away to Burnley Ladies.

Burnley Girls & Ladies have been members of the North West League Premier Division since 2006 after a rapid rise up the league in the previous seasons. They entered the league in 2003 and won the Division Three title at the first attempt, dropping just two points all season. They kept this form up the following season to finish Champions of Division Two and then the following season, 2005-06, were promoted to the Premier Division after finishing as runners-up to St Domingo's.

Their best two seasons in the top division came after promotion, when they ended up in third place in both campaigns. They have remained there ever since having also finished fourth on two other occasions.

This season, they have got off to a good start with ten points from their opening four matches and are two places above City of Manchester in the table, the sides not having met in the league yet.

The team is managed by Mark Wilson who says: " We have a healthy squad to give the management a headache. We try to promote simple football that is good to watch, so far we have had a reasonable start to the season compared to the last one. This season, a few new players have joined the club and made a real difference. Team spirit and belief is on the rise so we will see where it takes us." Mark is assisted by Grahame Meeks, Phil Leedham and Andy Farrall with Martin Smith and Jo Holt, who is also captain, taking care of admin. Rachael Wood is the current leading scorer.

This game is too close to call with both teams looking evenly matched and a good contest is in prospect at Barden Athletic & Sports Club.
