Albion end Sheffield run
 Women's Football News 7 Oct 2013
Sporting Club Albion ended the winning start to the season from Northern Division leaders Sheffield FC by beating them 2-1.
Abby Pope netted the winner for Albion on the hour mark to add to Robyn James' earlier goal, with Jodie Michalska replying for Sheffield who stay on top of the table despite conceding their first points of the campaign.
Preston North End moved level on points with Sheffield after they defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1. The Lancashire side went into the game having been beaten in successive matches by Derby County but got off to a good start when Melissa Ball gave them an eighth minute lead. Wolves replied instantly through Jamillah Palmer but Paige Forster put Preston back in front less than ten minutes later and Ball scored a decisive third, her eighth of the season, shortly before half time.
Nottingham Forest are now the only unbeaten team left in the division and they moved themselves to within a single point of the leadership with a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers. The first half ended goalless but Forest were ahead within three minutes of the restart through Kirsty Allen and they wrapped up the win with a second goal from Stephanie Smith, sixteen minutes from time, to lift themselves up into third.
A win would have taken Stoke City back to the top of the table but they had to settle for a point after twice coming from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against improving Bradford City. Caroline Omboyi took her tally to three goals in two matches to help Bradford extend their unbeaten run to three matches.
Such is the tightness of the division at present, Derby County were another team that would have ascended to the top with a victory but instead they were involved in another high scoring game but on the wrong end of a 3-2 defeat away to Newcastle Utd. Natalie Henderson and Megan Pyper each scored early goals for Newcastle before Henderson netted her second early in the second half.
