Even though we went down to a two-goal defeat to England on the day, there is nothing for us to be downhearted about after giving so much effort during the match.
Defensively, we were very solid and we weren't worried too much about England in the first half, I thought we dealt with them very well and deserved to go in level at the break.
Obviously we were disappointed with the two goals that we conceded eventually and we had chances to score a couple of goals as well. We were only ever going to get a couple of chances when playing against a top team like that and we have just got to take them when they come.
I am so proud of the girls and the steps that we have taken between the last campaign and this one, you could see from the performance against England that they are big steps.
The game plan worked in the first half and we frustrated them but two set plays did us in the end and I will say the second was never a free kick, it was ours. You look at that and it's frustrating when that happens, also the referee was speaking to me and wouldn't let me get back into shape before the kick was taken so that is something I am disappointed about. It wasn't their free kick, Karen Carney stepped on my ankle and I think you can see that on the replay but there is nothing you can do about that.
But we will learn from that. although going down to two set plays is very difficult. We have worked hard on becoming hard to beat and I think we showed that during the game as our defence played really well. The difference between ourselves and England was only a couple of goals and we had our chances, there are a lot of positives for us to take from the game and that is something we will be taking a look at.
Unfortunately things did not go well for me after the honour and privilege of leading my country out against England and I ended up in a lot of pain and eventually had to go off because of an injury I picked up during the first half. It came from a corner, there was a big coming together and I have broken my wrist so it wasn't a great day for me. But this team and the girls have been absolutely fantastic and as their captain, I am so proud of them.
We have to remember it is only one defeat though, when we played in the qualifying group for the Euros two years ago we only had one point after our first three games, so we shall remain really positive and not dwell on the result. As long as we can get the three points from our next game away to Montenegro, we still have everything to play for.
