It was a good day for Sheffield FC as they went four points clear at the top of the Northern Division with a 7-1 victory over Stoke City.
The opening half hour was goalless but two goals in quick succession from Suzanne Davies put Sheffield in the driving seat before Krystle Johnston, Rebecca Lee and Ellie Gilliatt added further goals ahead of the break. Louise Roberts pulled one back for Stoke but Davies went on to add a couple more, completing a four-goal haul in total.
Nottingham Forest meanwhile went down to their first defeat of the season, beaten 2-1 by Bradford City who move out of the bottom two as a result. The damage was inflicted in the first half as Bradford took a two-goal lead through Rebecca Kendell and Sarah Danby and although Amber Hughes halved the arrears with seven minutes remaining, City held on for three valuable points.
Preston North End are back in fourth after running out 4-1 winners against Sporting Club Albion. Sophie Jones gave the Lancashire side a first half lead and they went on to clinch victory through a Gemma Watson brace and Keeleigh Savage, Albion's consolation coming from Eloise Gerhold.
Wolverhampton Wanderers meanwhile celebrated their first league victory of the season when they came from behind to beat Leeds Utd 2-1. It was Leeds who opened the scoring just after the hour mark through Abbie McIver but Amber Quick equalised shortly afterwards and as the game went into injury time, Anna Perks headed in the winner for Wolves from a Jamillah Palmer corner.
